Part Time Faculty - Childhood Education Job Summary

El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions in Childhood Education for the 2026 fall semester. Faculty responsibilities include the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in alignment with the college’s mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.

Schedule & Delivery

Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, on‑line or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College’s distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification.

Professional Engagement

Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the College that support students to achieve their educational goals through collaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood; OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the above; AND Master’s degree in educational psychology with a specialization in child development, social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, family life studies, or family and consumer studies; OR
  • Equivalent qualifications – Candidates without the required qualification(s) must complete a Request for Equivalency Form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above.
  • Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1 1990 (per California Education Code 87355).
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Willingness to teach in‑person, dual enrollment classes on high school campuses.
  • College level teaching experience.
  • Past or current experience in a preschool (or similar) setting.
  • Master’s degree or higher in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.

Salary

Part‑time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $116.73–$146.27 (lecture), $88.47–$110.84 (lab) per hour depending on education and experience.

Conditions of Employment

This is a part‑time, temporary position for the fall 2026 beginning August 24 2026. Assignments may include off‑site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment are subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credentials, and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted and to submit a Certificate of Completion of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security Card upon hire.
