Job Summary
The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part‑time faculty positions in Childhood Education for the 2026 fall semester.
ResponsibilitiesFaculty will assess learning outcomes to enhance teaching and learning, supporting El Camino College’s mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services. Assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours, and faculty may participate in initiatives that support students through collaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry or trade groups, universities, high schools, and other partnerships. Faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses must complete the district’s distance‑education certification process or provide waiver evidence of prior certification.
Required Qualifications- Master’s degree in child development, early childhood education, human development, family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood; OR
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s degree in educational psychology with a specialization in child development, social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, family life studies, or family and consumer studies; OR
- Equivalent credentials—candidates must submit a Request for Equivalency Form explaining how their qualifications meet these requirements; OR
- Valid California community college instructor credential issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND
- Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and individuals with disabilities.
- Willingness to teach in‑person dual enrollment classes on high school campuses;
- College‑level teaching experience;
- Past or current experience in a preschool (or similar) setting;
- Master’s degree or higher in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.
Part‑time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The starting rate is $116.73 – $146.27 per hour for lecture, $88.47 – $110.84 per hour for lab, based on the PT salary schedule for fall/spring.
Conditions of EmploymentThis is a part‑time, temporary position for the fall 2026 semester, beginning August 24, 2026. Assignments may include off‑site locations. Offer and acceptance are subject to verification of all information provided on the application, credentials, and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit a Certificate of Completion of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security Card upon hire.
