Nativity Catholic School is a coeducational Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade Catholic school located in Torrance, California. As a ministry of Nativity Catholic Church, our mission is to provide a faith-filled environment where students grow academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. Nativity Catholic School is seeking dependable, caring, and flexible substitute teachers to join our school substitute pool. Substitute opportunities may be available in grades TK through 8 depending on school needs. This is a part-time, as-needed position.
Position SummarySubstitute teachers support the daily life of the school when a classroom teacher is absent. Substitutes are responsible for supervising students, implementing teacher-provided lesson plans, maintaining a positive classroom environment, and ensuring the safety and well-being of students throughout the school day.
The ideal candidate is reliable, professional, flexible, and comfortable working with students in a Catholic school setting.
Responsibilities Include- Supervise students in classrooms and other assigned school settings.
- Follow lesson plans, schedules, and directions provided by the classroom teacher and administration.
- Take attendance and submit attendance records to the school office.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and orderly learning environment.
- Support students in remaining engaged and on task throughout the school day.
- Communicate important information regarding student behavior, attendance, or classroom concerns to the teacher and administration.
- Uphold school policies, procedures, and expectations.
- Model professionalism and appropriate conduct consistent with the mission and values of Catholic education.
The minimum qualifications are:
- Associate’s degree required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Experience working with children or youth preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Dependable, professional, and comfortable supervising students across multiple grade levels.
- Commitment to supporting the mission and philosophy of Catholic education.
- Successful completion of Archdiocese of Los Angeles fingerprinting, VIRTUS training, and background clearance requirements prior to employment.
