Position: Part Time Faculty Noncredit - English as a Second Language

The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part‑time faculty positions for the 2026 fall semester to teach in person and/or online in the following courses:

Noncredit English as a Second Language

Faculty job responsibilities include the development of class curriculum to meet the requirements detailed in the Course Outline of Record, and the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services. Some assignments may include dual enrollment courses offsite on high school campuses.

Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, online or hybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teach quality online courses.

Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the College that support students to achieve their educational goals through collaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  • Bachelor's degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in TESL, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a noncredit instructor
  • Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified in paragraph 2 above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in TESL, which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a noncredit instructor
  • Possession of a full‑time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in ESL
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of college students, and of individuals with disabilities

Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the request for equivalency form as part of the application process to explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above.

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous college‑level or adult school teaching experience
  • Background in theories of second language acquisition, second language methodology, linguistics, and the teaching of reading and writing to ESL students
  • Experience teaching noncredit ESL

Salary

Part‑time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $110.17 – $146.27 (lecture) and $83.51 – $110.84 (lab), per hour depending on PT salary schedule fall/spring.

Conditions of Employment

This is a part‑time, temporary position for the fall semester, beginning August 24, 2026. Assignments may include off‑site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit a certificate of completion of the tuberculosis risk assessment and/or examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security Card upon hire.
