Part Time Instructor - Chemistry

The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions in the following subject area for spring 2027: CHEM-4: BEGINNING CHEMISTRY Faculty job responsibilities include the development of classcurriculum to meet the requirements detailed in the Course Outlineof Record, conducting office hours at regularly scheduled days andtimes, and the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.

Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, orweekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, on-line orhybrid with required distance education certification assignmentsare voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online orhybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of awaiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teachquality online courses. Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the Collegethat support students to achieve their educational goals throughcollaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines.

Education and Experience:

• Master's degree in chemistry; OR
• Bachelor's degree in chemistry AND a Master's degree in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics; OR
• The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process toexplain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to thoseabove ; OR
• Valid California community college instructor credential inappropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 ( per California Education Code 87355 ); AND
• Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic,socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities.

• Community college or equivalent teaching experience in chemistry lecture and laboratory courses.
• Demonstrated knowledge and utilization of evidence-basedpedagogical practices that promote student success.
• Willingness to participate in department and college activities.
• Willingness to work cooperatively with classified staff to planlaboratory activities.
• Demonstrated ability to work with and support the success of students with widely diverse educational backgrounds and abilities.

Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basisaccording to the number of class hours assigned per semester and oncumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginningrate is $110.17 - $146.27 (lecture/extensive lab) per hour depending on education and experience.

This is a part-time, temporary position for the 2027 spring semester, beginning February 2026. Assignments may include off-site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject toverification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts.
