Part-Time Faculty - Games and Playable Media

The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions for the
2027 spring semester to teach courses with emphasis on the following:

Faculty job responsibilities include the assessment of learningoutcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.

Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, orweekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, on-line orhybrid with required distance education certification assignments are voluntary. For faculty who are interested in teaching online orhybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of awaiver with evidence of prior certification to develop and teachquality online courses.

Faculty may participate in initiatives set forth by the Collegethat support students to achieve their educational goals throughcollaborations with employers, advisory committees, industry/trade groups, universities, high schools, or other partnerships with related instructional disciplines.

Bachelor's degree and five (5) years full-time or full-time equivalent experience in the discipline; OR

Associate's degree and six (6) years full-time or full-time equivalent experience in the discipline; OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) as stated on this announcement must complete the Request For Equivalency Form as part of the application process toexplain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to thoseabove; OR

Valid California community college instructor credential inappropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND

Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic,socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities.

BA/BS or higher in Game Design or Game Development.

Experience teaching game design methods including but not limitedto documentation, prototyping, play testing, and narrative design.

Experience working on both large and small scale game development projects.

Experience working on game design for different platforms including mobile.

Familiarity with extant literature on theories of game design andplay.

Part-time faculty are compensated on a semester basis according tothe number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $110.17 - $146.27 (lecture), $83.51 - $110.84 (lab), per hour depending on education and experience.

This is a part-time, temporary position for the 2027 spring semester, beginning February 2027. Assignments may include off-site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject toverification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit Certificate of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security card upon hire.
