Position: Manager, CAE Engineering (Aerospace & Defense)

Overview

Divergent is a technology company building the Divergent Adaptive Production System (DAPS) to engineer, additively manufacture, and flexibly assemble complex vehicle structures. We are expanding into aerospace and defense and seek to transform industrial manufacturing with our patented Nodes™ 3D-printed metal connectors and DAPS technology. Divergent is a qualified Tier 1 supplier to global automotive OEMs and is seeking to advance vehicle development with a forward-looking engineer to shape the future of industrial manufacturing.

Purpose

Divergent aims to revolutionize industrial manufacturing in automotive, aerospace, and defense through DAPS. Our technology eliminates tooling and drives innovation, capital reduction, and sustainability in vehicle manufacturing.

The Role

A Manager, CAE Engineering will build and mentor a team of engineers to develop cutting-edge vehicles and products using DAPS technology. This role requires hands-on mentorship and team-building to foster accountability and ownership for the CAE team. Providing deep technical guidance in structural analysis and CAE is critical, with collaboration across the company to meet cross-functional requirements and customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Set team priorities, track projects, and mentor engineers to achieve critical company milestones.
  • Develop and institutionalize a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Perform cross-functional technical reviews to ensure product capabilities meet requirements.
  • Identify and communicate capability gaps, risks, and dependencies between application and platform teams, and coordinate mitigation plans.
  • Grow the capabilities of the team through training, mentorship, documentation, and hiring.
  • Appropriate resource allocation and capacity planning.
  • Accountable for generating and measuring functional departmental goals, KPIs, and responsibilities.
  • Collaborate within the DAPS Product Engineering team and with other disciplines to achieve company goals.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls
  • BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years of technical experience in aerospace or automotive structural analysis
  • Minimum 3 years of technical leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team of Structural/CAE engineers cross-functionally
  • Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept through production, focusing on high-performance materials and high-reliability applications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex inputs and align stakeholders
  • In-depth industrial experience in Structural Analysis and CAE including one of:
    Damage Tolerance Analysis, Explicit Full Vehicle Crash Analysis, Cohesive Zone Adhesive Analysis, Flutter Analysis, Random-Vibration test correlation, or Nonlinear Thermal Structural Analysis
  • Office-based role with some time in conference rooms or outdoor for test observation as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability to lead mechanical engineers cross-functionally
  • Proven track record of leading complex projects from concept through production
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to synthesize complex inputs and align stakeholders
  • Experience engaging with DoD airworthiness stakeholders or similar regulatory bodies
  • Experience supporting structural design and analysis through design, build, and test phases
  • Strong systems-thinking mindset and ability to drive clarity across technology and program boundaries
  • Office environment familiarity with standard office equipment
Compensation

Pay range is based on level; this role is evaluated at levels M06–M07.

  • M06: $157,190 - $216,150
  • M07: $182,380 - $250,745

Pay Range: $157,190 - $250,745 USD
