Job Description & How to Apply Below
Director of Embedded & Electrical Engineering (FPGA)
Lead a multidisciplinary team of electrical and embedded design engineers in the development of advanced ProAV & embedded systems used in Medical, Defense, and Enterprise markets. This challenging, hands‑on leadership role requires quick thinking, intelligence, and blends technical excellence, project execution, and people development aspects, ensuring that our next generation of high‑performance products meet design, quality, and schedule objectives. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable guiding architecture and design decisions as well as mentoring engineers and driving results.
Job ResponsibilitiesElectrical Design & Development
- Leads the development of Embedded HW architectures to meet performance and simultaneously production cost targets by performing trade studies and developing requirements for the selected architectures.
- Lead schematic capture, PCB layout review, and ensure best practices for signal integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation, and thermal management.
- Integrate microcontrollers, FPGAs, and SoCs with communication interfaces such as I²C, SPI, USB, Ethernet, CAN, RS-232/422/485, and PCIe.
- Support firmware and HDL (Verilog/VHDL) development for embedded control, communication, and real‑time video transport.
- Oversee and contribute to the design of analog, digital, and mixed‑signal circuits for video, control, and power systems.
- Define and execute design verification and validation testing, including board bring‑up, stress testing, and environmental qualification.
- Drive continuous improvement in design methodology, simulation, and documentation standards.
- Conduct and participate in peer reviews of design, circuit and code.
- Troubleshoot complex design and integration challenges across analog, digital, and high‑speed domains with a focus on root cause analysis.
- Develop and maintain all processes for HW engineering with the goal of reducing errors and improving design cycle time.
- Maintain proper engineering documentation, version control, and technical archives for all projects.
- Interface with internal teams, customers, and vendors to define requirements and ensure satisfaction with delivered solutions.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of electrical & embedded engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion in project management, including scheduling, resource planning, and milestone tracking.
- Oversee all stages of electrical design projects — from concept through production — ensuring high technical standards and timely delivery.
- Provide weekly status updates and technical guidance to the Sr. Director of Engineering.
- Lead formal design and progress reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and ensure compliance with applicable standards (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, MIL‑STD).
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, software, production, and QA teams to achieve integrated product success.
- Champion creativity, teamwork, tenacity, empathy, and critical thinking.
- Management or team leadership experience.
- Must be hands‑on in last 1‑2 roles.
- Extensive electrical experience — ability to review and edit schematic board layouts, and troubleshoot complex designs.
- Experience seeing products through full lifecycle — will oversee all stages of design.
- Experience leading cost model analysis.
- Proficiency in FPGA development.
Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience leading root cause analysis and writing 8D failure reports for customer issues with hardware.
- Experience with video and networking interfaces such as HDMI, Display Port, SDI, DVI, and Ethernet.
- Experience with medical or military design and test standards.
- Familiarity with high‑speed digital design, power regulation, and EMI/EMC compliance.
- Working knowledge of Ethernet networking concepts, PHYs, and switches.
- Exceptional problem‑solving and analytical skills with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting to both technical and executive audiences.
