Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS), a business unit of Howmet Aerospace headquartered in Torrance, California, is seeking a 2nd Shift Quality Lab Technician II for its Torrance, CA location.
ResponsibilitiesPerform metallurgical and/or mechanical testing on manufactured products. Complete training requirements and examinations for NADCAP accreditation.
- Conduct complex or unusual metallurgical tests using instrumentation and control systems, including strain measurement, temperature control, hardness, load cells, tensile, X‑ray plating, hydrogen determination, fatigue, and stress rupture.
- Troubleshoot faulty equipment and investigate suspect test data, e.g., conducting hardness and tensile strength correlation studies.
- Perform all types of mechanical testing as required, calculate, conduct, and report test results, and perform special testing procedures and programs such as investigating/verifying customer returns.
- Make recommendations to the Lab Supervisor on improving equipment and test techniques.
- Conduct quarterly test fixture inventory and prepare orders for new or replacement tooling as necessary.
- Provide technical guidance for laboratory technicians less familiar with equipment and procedures.
- Test samples of manufactured products to verify conformity to specifications.
- Record test results on standardized forms and write test reports describing procedures used.
- Minimum +2 years of laboratory experience in mechanical or metallurgical testing.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.
- Ability to lawfully obtain access to export‑controlled items for employment offers.
- Experience with tensile testing of fasteners.
- Experience with Rockwell hardness testing of fasteners.
- Metallurgical sample preparation/inspection experience.
- Ability to interface with auditors and customer representatives.
