Job Description
As a Senior Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer at Honeywell, you will provide technical expertise and support in the materials and process engineering of cast products. You will collaborate across Honeywell Aerospace engineering teams to create solutions and systems that meet the evolving needs of our customers. You will participate in all phases of product development and serve as a technical point of contact for less experienced engineers.
The role reports directly to our Senior Engineering Manager and is based in Torrance, CA with a hybrid work schedule. Primary responsibilities include supporting new and existing cast products used in aerospace gas turbine engines, with a focus on material and process support for design and manufacture of cast parts and interaction with suppliers to resolve issues. Occasionally, the position may require lifting up to 35 pounds single lift.
- Work between suppliers and Honeywell Engineering, Quality, Supplier Development Engineers (SDE), and Integrated Supply Chain (ISC).
- Troubleshoot material and process issues and provide technical solutions for rapid problem solving.
- Provide internal engineering support for casting development, drawing reviews and process improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
- Four or more years of experience in materials/process engineering in the casting industry.
- Four or more years of experience with nickel, aluminum, steel, and/or titanium aerospace cast alloys.
- Specialization in Materials Science, Material Engineering, Metallurgy, Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
- Advanced degree in engineering or a related field is a plus.
- Hands‑on experience in casting (investment/sand casting production processes are a plus).
- Familiarity with industrial materials and processing specifications.
- Knowledge of Nadcap and industry standards, requirements and approvals.
- Capability to assess new suppliers and determine their strengths and weaknesses.
- Experience conducting casting supplier audits (investment castings and sand casting audits are a plus).
- Experience working with and developing suppliers.
- Experience working with Design Engineering.
- Understanding of engineering drawings and requirements.
- Experience in Six Sigma, Lean and other process improvement tools.
The annual base salary range for this position is $117,000 – $146,000. Salary is determined by scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, and market considerations.
