Moog Military Aircraft Group is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to support our Manufacturing Engineering Group at our plant in Torrance, CA. Reporting to our Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will have a 9/80 schedule on‑site work in Torrance, CA.

Key ResponsibilitiesNew Product Introduction (NPI):
- Perform drawing reviews to ensure the application of DFMA principles.
- Develop quality‑based and cost‑effective manufacturing processes.
- Design tooling for all operations requiring holding fixtures and/or specialized cutting.
- Perform critical analysis during proof out of manufacturing processes, troubleshoot and revise as necessary to achieve the targeted quality yield and efficiency.
Legacy Programs and Production Environment:
- Work with the operations team to support continuous improvement activities in the machine shop during the fabrication of complex parts and sub‑assemblies.
- Review existing manufacturing plans on legacy hardware to ensure compatibility of engineering drawings with fabrication capabilities.
- Make recommendations for improvements and drawing updates to enhance yield and production, as well as the implementation of Automation, Advanced Manufacturing and Industry 4.0 technologies.
- Research, specify and purchase capital equipment for additional capacity or manufacturing technology improvements.
- Coordinate with various departments and team members to assure the most effective design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes.
- Provide technical ownership of gear production equipment such as hobbers and shapers, including programming support, troubleshooting, fixture and cutting tool specifications, as needed.
- Bachelor of Science in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical or a related engineering discipline with experience in the manufacturing of aerospace components.
- Additional seasoned experience in manufacturing engineering that would be equivalent to what is learned in a degreed program is considered an acceptable alternative to the Bachelor of Science requirement.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in the field of manufacturing engineering, preferably with aerospace cylindrical steel components.
- Results‑oriented team player with effective and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong knowledge of the following machining processes:
- Turning
- Milling
- OD/, Surface, and Jig Grinding
Familiarity with the following gear machining processes:
- Shaping
- Hobbing
- Broaching
- Gear Grinding
Strong knowledge of machining properties for various aerospace steels, such as carbon steels, stainless steels, carburizing steels, nitriding steels, aluminum, etc.
Moderate knowledge of the following processes:
- Heat Treatment, including carburizing, nitriding, and core hardening
- Plating processes, such as cad plating, zinc‑nickel plating, chrome plating
- NDT:
Magnetic particle inspection, Nital etch inspection, hardness testing. - Aerospace painting processes
Strong knowledge of:
- 3D modeling best practices and principles
- GDT, engineering drawings interpretation and creation
- Fixture and tool design
- Inspection methods, tools and best practices for relative hardware (cylindrical, small to mid‑size geared components)
- Employment of various quality processes, such as 5 Why's and Fishbone diagrams, to perform root cause analysis and provide robust corrective action for low‑yield processes and/or non‑conforming hardware
It'd be great if you also had:
- Experience with NX & Team Center
- Previous experience with creating manufacturing processes for aerospace cylindrical components with gears and/or splines
- Strong knowledge of gears/splines manufacturing processes
- Strong knowledge of gears/splines inspection methods and tools
- Experience with CMM (Zeiss) inspection methods and reports
- Previous experience in the aerospace manufacturing industry and familiarity with AS9100 requirements
