Senior Manufacturing Engineer – a role that supports our Manufacturing Engineering Group at our Torrance, CA plant, reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The position offers a 9/80 onsite schedule and focuses on developing and maturing manufacturing processes for production hardware.

Onsite – Torrance, CA (9/80 schedule)

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform drawing reviews to ensure DFMA principles are applied.
  • Develop quality‑based and cost‑effective manufacturing processes.
  • Design tooling for holding fixtures and specialized cutting operations.
  • Conduct critical analysis during process proof‑out, troubleshoot, and revise to achieve targeted quality yield and efficiency.
Legacy Programs and Production Environment
  • Collaborate with the operations team on continuous improvement activities in the machine shop for complex parts and sub‑assemblies.
  • Review existing manufacturing plans for legacy hardware to ensure compatibility of engineering drawings with fabrication capabilities.
  • Recommend improvements and drawing updates to enhance yield and production, including automation, advanced manufacturing, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Research, specify, and purchase capital equipment for capacity or technology improvements.
  • Coordinate with various departments to optimize design and use of manufacturing facilities and processes.
  • Provide technical ownership of gear production equipment such as hobbers and shapers, including support, programming, troubleshooting, fixture, and cutting tool specifications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline with experience in manufacturing aerospace components.
  • Equivalent seasoned experience in manufacturing engineering may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in manufacturing engineering (or 10 years for non‑degree holders), preferably with aerospace cylindrical steel components.
  • Results‑oriented team player with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong Knowledge of the Following Machining Processes
  • Turning
  • Milling
  • OD/, Surface, and Jig Grinding
Familiarity with Gear Machining Processes
  • Shaping
  • Hobbing
  • Broaching
  • Gear Grinding

Strong knowledge of machining properties for various aerospace steels, including carbon steels, stainless steels, carburizing steels, nitriding steels, and aluminum.

Moderate Knowledge of the Following Processes
  • Heat Treatment: carburizing, nitriding, core hardening
  • Plating processes: cad plating, zinc‑nickel plating, chrome plating
  • NDT: magnetic particle inspection, Nital Etch inspection, hardness testing
  • Aerospace painting processes
Strong Knowledge of
  • 3D modeling best practices and principles
  • GDT, engineering drawings interpretation and creation
  • Fixture and tool design
  • Inspection methods, tools, and best practices for cylindrical and small to mid‑size geared components
  • Quality processes such as 5 Why’s and fishbone diagrams for root cause analysis and corrective action
It’d Be Great If You Also Had
  • Experience with NX and Team Center
  • Previous experience creating manufacturing processes for aerospace cylindrical components with gears and/or splines
  • Strong knowledge of gear/spline manufacturing processes
  • Strong knowledge of gear/spline inspection methods and tools
  • Experience with CMM (Zeiss) inspection methods and reports
  • Previous aerospace manufacturing experience and familiarity with AS9100 requirements
