About Andrenam

We’re building sonar and sensing systems that bring light to the last dark domain: the ocean. Our team includes alumni from SpaceX, Anduril, ABL, Palantir and Qualia. We build full-stack—from physics to perception to product with speed, elegance, and an unwavering commitment to the mission.

We believe the maritime domain will define the next century of economics, geopolitics, and global security. We're here to shape it.

About This Role

We are seeking an experienced Sonar Analyst to identify and classify signals of interest in recorded sonar and acoustic data, and to provide expert recommendations that inform sonar system deployment strategies and system design. The successful candidate will analyze acoustic data sets to derive qualitative and quantitative technical measurements, working alongside engineers and researchers to advance sonar capabilities.

In this role
  • You will screen and analyze recorded acoustic data for signals of interest, developing acoustic tracks and signatures.
  • You will classify detected signals and perform platform signature and noise analysis.
  • You will process, analyze, and report on acoustic sensor data to establish sensor health and diagnose sensor and data issues.
  • You will apply environmental data to your analyses when conducting technical measurements.
  • You will conduct acoustic reconstruction and analysis of exercises and operations, evaluating the effectiveness of active and passive sonar systems using quantitative measures of effectiveness (MOEs).
  • You will perform active and passive sonar signal analysis in support of advanced research and development.
  • You will provide expert recommendations on sonar system deployments, collection planning, and system design to engineering and development teams.
  • You will coordinate and conduct at-sea experimental reconstruction activities, including acoustic signal analysis and performance improvement analyses.
  • You will work across hardware and software configurations to read and reconcile data from multiple sources.
  • You will prepare, review, and present analyses in presentations, briefings, technical papers, and databases at internal and external working group meetings, and participate in data reviews and technical exchanges as required.
What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years of operational experience in the employment and expert analysis of sonar systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in acoustic data screening, detection, classification, and development of target tracks from acoustic data.
  • Experience performing platform noise and signature analysis, with an understanding of methods for conducting technical measurements.
  • Demonstrated ability to reconstruct and analyze active and passive sonar data.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop acoustic collection plans and deliver briefings to senior stakeholders.
  • Comfort working both independently and as part of a team, with direct sponsor and peer contact.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of standard office software (word processing, spreadsheets, email).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for a government security clearance at the level appropriate to the position.
Nice to have
  • Background as a submarine sonar technician, undersea surveillance analyst, or air ASW analyst.
  • Extensive experience in surface ship and submarine anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations.
  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience, Master's degree with 3 years, or 10 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with sonar calibration trials and acoustic recording systems.
  • Experience briefing and advising senior leadership.
  • Knowledge of current and planned sonar systems and processor build architectures.
  • Qualification as a Master Training Specialist or equivalent instructional experience.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, or similar programming languages.
