Mechanical Engineer – Staff Aerospace
Adaptive Launch Solutions (ALS) is a Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB), offering full comprehensive benefits. ALS provides pico, nano, micro, mini, and small satellites full launch integration services on Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle (EELV), Medium Launch Vehicles (MLVs) and Small Launch Vehicles (SLVs). On February 8, 2019 the U.S. Air Force (USAF) Space and Missile Systems Centers (SMC) Launch Enterprise Directorate awarded the multi-year Launch Manifest Systems Integrator (LMSI) Contract.
As part of the LMSI team, ALS will deliver capabilities and integration approaches that establish U.S. government enterprise-wide capability for small satellite delivery to space.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Staff Mechanical Analysis Engineer will initially support a USG Government small satellite launch integration program providing model-based analysis. Excellent writing and communication skills a plus. Specifically, the Staff Mechanical Analysis Engineer will:
- Apply understanding of the technical principles of mechanical design and analysis toward the development of launch vehicle structural components and the integration of those components into launch systems
- Have thorough knowledge in the field of structural analysis and broad knowledge of all related disciplines
- Work as part of a launch team performing trade studies, generating Finite Element Models, performing stress analysis, supporting dynamic analysis, and conducting mechanical test simulating flight and ground environments.
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. or higher Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Physics Degree
- Three (3) or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience
- Familiar with mechanical analysis hand calculation methods; understanding of drawing practices, material properties, and manufacturing processes;
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) such as MSC NASTRAN/PATRAN;
Aero Analysis Tools such as ABAQUS; and familiarity with CATIA V5 - Detailed understanding of MILSTD and NASA standards regarding durability and damage tolerance, fatigue & fracture, metallic & composite analysis a plus.
