Our Spring Co-Op program runs from Jan - Aug, 2027. In order to be considered for this role, you must be available to work full time (40 hours per week), onsite, for the entire duration. If you are unable to work during the spring semester, please apply to our Summer Internship Program.

This Mechanical Engineering Process and Automation Co-Op directly accelerates Rivian's vehicle development by replacing repetitive design tasks with intelligent, automated workflows. By streamlining CAD and PLM data pipelines, the role empowers core engineering teams to focus entirely on hardware innovation and optimization rather than manual data entry. Ultimately, this increased engineering velocity drives faster, more reliable production cycles and ensures Rivian's electric vehicles get to market with uncompromising quality and rigor.

• Map and analyze existing mechanical design, packaging, and release workflows across hardware teams to identify bottlenecks and manual data‑entry tasks.

• Develop, test, and deploy custom scripts and CAD API tools to automate repetitive drafting, modeling, and analytical processes.

• Streamline data flow within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, optimizing Bill of Materials (BOM) structuring and part revision control.

• Partner directly with core mechanical engineers to gather requirements, test automated prototypes, and ensure new tools align with strict design standards.

• Author comprehensive technical documentation and conduct training sessions to drive adoption of new automated workflows across the engineering organization.

• Must be currently pursuing a bachelors or masters degree at an accredited university.
• Actively pursuing a degree or one closely related in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or similar.

• Solid grasp of core fundamentals (GD&T, DFM/DFA).

• High proficiency in industry-standard parametric CAD software (e.g., CATIA, Solid Works, NX) and exposure to PLM environments (e.g., Enovia, Teamcenter).

• Demonstrated hands‑on experience with programming or scripting languages such as Python, VBA, MATLAB, or C++ applied to engineering problems.

• Strong systems‑thinking capability with a proven track record of applying continuous improvement or lean methodologies to complex projects or processes.
