Production Supervisor (Plating, Anodizing, Heat Treating)
Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS), a business unit of Howmet Aerospace headquartered in Torrance, California, is seeking a Production Supervisor for its Torrance location. HFS is the global leader in aerospace fastening systems and a North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high‑tech, multi‑material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines and are critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial traffic vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment.
EssentialFunctions
- Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in operating a variety of machines to manufacture parts or products.
- Supervises work teams and individuals to meet customer quality and on‑time delivery needs.
- Ensures compliance with company policies.
- Analyzes work orders to estimate worker hours and create processing schedules that meet internal and external needs.
- Schedules and/or approves overtime and vacations.
- Manages teams by establishing monthly and quarterly performance goals.
- Assists in setting and achieving productivity and quality targets for various teams.
- Coaches manufacturing personnel in continuous improvement efforts.
- Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure customer deadlines are met.
- Inspects and measures parts and products to verify conformance to specifications.
- Directs workers in adjusting machines and equipment to repair products that fail to meet standards.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Develops, recommends, and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and equipment usage to increase shop, department, or crew efficiency.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Maintains time and production records.
- Develops capital equipment justifications for machine tools and process technology to improve quality, cost, and cycle times.
- Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
- Reviews daily production reports and forms.
- Attends Daily Manufacturing Review Meeting.
- Supports Manufacturing Manager in meeting department goals and objectives.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
- Ability to lawfully obtain access to export‑controlled items.
- Experience in plating, heat treatment, chemical or metallurgical processes.
- Preferable bachelor’s degree in business or engineering.
- Manufacturing supervisory experience.
- Experience manufacturing precision machined metal components.
- Experience in a machine shop.
- Familiarity with TPS/Continuous Improvement/Lean Manufacturing principles and programs.
- Experience in the aerospace industry.
- Must be able to work on site in Torrance, California; remote work not considered.
- Must be able to work the 2nd shift, from 1:30 PM to 10:00 PM.
The position includes competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; a generous 401(k) matching program; paid holidays and vacation. The salary range for this position is $80,000–$115,000.
