Job Description & How to Apply Below
Eleven Recruiting is hiring for a CNC Lathe Machinist to join a premier precision manufacturing facility supporting aerospace, defense, and medical sectors onsite in Torrance, CA. This facility specializes in low-volume, high-mix production and prototype machining, delivering extremely tight-tolerance components from complex materials including stainless steel, titanium, and magnetic alloys.
This role is ideal for a senior‑level machinist with advanced multi‑axis lathe experience, including setup, operation, inspection, and mentoring. Candidates must be confident working to ±2 micron tolerances and supporting both production and R&D machining.
Responsibilities- Lead complex setups and operate multi‑axis CNC lathes, consistently holding ±2 micron tolerances on highly engineered parts.
- Machine components made from a wide range of materials including steel, titanium, stainless steel, engineering plastics, and magnetic alloys.
- Provide setup guidance and technical training to junior machinists (Levels I & II) on lathe operations and tool management.
- Write basic G&M code for lathe programs and create setup kits and documentation to improve efficiency.
- Conduct first‑piece inspections, ensuring compliance to specifications using CMMs, digital optical tools, and manual gauges.
- Machine workpiece collets and ensure precise axial runout and timing alignment.
- Select proper tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds optimized for CNC lathe applications.
- Maintain cutting tools, sharpen tools, and rework holders as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance, contribute to 5S efforts, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Support special machining projects and other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required; machining trade school certification strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of CNC lathe machining experience in a high‑precision, low‑volume production environment — or 3+ years with formal trade training.
- Strong proficiency with multi‑axis CNC lathes; experience with mills a plus.
- Familiarity with tight‑tolerance machining and consistently producing first‑piece‑good parts.
- Expert‑level blueprint reading skills and GD&T interpretation.
- Competence in writing, reading, and adjusting G&M code.
- Skilled in precision measuring using both digital and manual equipment.
Salary: $72,800 - $83,200
