The CNC Set-Up Programmer is responsible for setting up, programming, and optimizing CNC machining operations for precision aerospace components. This role requires expertise in CNC programming, blueprint interpretation, GD&T, tooling selection, and process optimization to ensure efficient production while maintaining strict quality standards.

This position also oversees CNC tooling procurement and inventory management, working closely with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to ensure the right tooling is available to support manufacturing operations.

Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate CNC milling machines for precision machining operations.
  • Develop, edit, and optimize CNC programs to improve cycle times and machining efficiency.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and CAD models.
  • Monitor machine performance during production and make adjustments as needed.
  • Perform first article inspections and verify dimensional accuracy using precision measuring equipment.
  • Conduct routine machine maintenance and identify potential equipment issues.
  • Utilize CAD/CAM software to support CNC programming and manufacturing processes.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles during programming and inspection.
  • Use precision measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify part quality.
  • Coordinate material movement and assist with material handling when required.
  • Identify tooling requirements for production jobs.
  • Source, purchase, and maintain inventory of CNC tooling and accessories.
  • Work closely with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of tooling and manufacturing supplies.
  • Monitor tooling performance and recommend improvements that increase productivity and reduce costs.
  • Establish and maintain tooling standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to continuously improve manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while following all company safety procedures.
Qualifications Required
  • Minimum 6 years of CNC setup and programming experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong experience with CNC milling machines.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T.
  • Experience performing quality inspections using precision measuring equipment.
  • Knowledge of CNC tooling, machining practices, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience working with CNC controls and machine logic.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or technical/vocational training in machining or manufacturing.
