The Staff RN uses the nursing process to deliver nursing care to a specific patient population within the care setting. Nursing care is based on interpreting and executing the medical and nursing plan of treatment, utilizing established procedures, standards, and protocols during the assigned work shift. The Staff RN provides comprehensive nursing care to the unit's patient population.
Core Competencies include:
- Adhering to infection prevention guidelines and organizational policies
- Assessing patient history and physiological and psychosocial status
- Effective communication with patients, families, and medical staff
- Compliance with Joint Commission safety goals and quality benchmarks
- Interpreting variables affecting patient care and following reporting protocols
- Maintaining regulatory compliance and participating in activities aligned with the Magnet Model
- Engaging in peer review and professional development
- Serving as a preceptor and providing age-specific, patient-centered care
- Educating patients and families throughout care
- Utilizing critical thinking for care planning and resource management
- Ensuring safe medication administration and patient handling
Department Specific Competencies include:
- Compliance with emergency department standards and triage protocols
- Performing accurate triage assessments (ESI 1-5)
- Monitoring electrolytes, acid-base balance, and fluids, intervening as needed
- Managing bleeding, artificial airways, and mechanical ventilation
- Promptly obtaining 12-lead EKGs for chest pain patients
- Stabilizing patients with myocardial ischemia, shock, or musculoskeletal injuries
- Providing pediatric care tailored to developmental stages and safety
- Managing patients in psychiatric crisis with safety as a priority
- Recognizing and reporting abuse or neglect according to policy
- Ensuring safe transfers and compliance with legal standards
Educational and Certification Requirements:
- Degree:
Associates, Bachelors, or Master Degree in Nursing - Additional: BSN/MSN preferred or within 3 years of completing an Associate degree
- Licenses/Certifications:
RN License, ACLS, and PALS from the American Heart Association
Compensation Range: $41.80 - $53.38
