Our Military Aircraft Group is seeking an experienced Repair Station Quality Manager to lead and continuously improve our FAA-certificated repair station quality system. This role reports to the Director of Quality & Business Excellence and operates onsite under a 9/80 schedule in Torrance, CA. This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring regulatory compliance, operational discipline, and aviation safety across civil and defense-adjacent repair activities.
Responsibilities- Serve as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities, including the FAA, ensuring ongoing compliance, certification renewals, and effective regulatory communication.
- Own and maintain the Repair Station Quality Management System, including the Repair Station Manual, Quality Manual, training programs, and associated procedures.
- Ensure all maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alteration activities are performed within certificate scope and approved data; maintain and control capability lists.
- Provide independent quality oversight, including the authority to stop work for quality or safety concerns.
- Lead the audit program (internal, external, customer, and regulatory), including planning, execution oversight, corrective action, and effectiveness verification.
- Analyze audit trends and quality metrics to drive systemic corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Oversee inspection system effectiveness (receiving, in-process, final) in coordination with inspection leadership to ensure procedural and regulatory adherence.
- Govern initial and recurrent training requirements for personnel performing FAA-regulated work.
- Maintain and participate in the Safety Management System (SMS), including hazard reporting, risk assessments, and safety promotion activities.
- Partner with operations, engineering, and leadership to embed quality and safety into daily execution.
- Support global or customer audit activities as required (occasional travel, ~5–10%).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, aviation, or a technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience in regulated aerospace environments)
- Minimum 5+ years in an FAA Part 145 repair station or equivalent maintenance organization, with demonstrated quality or regulatory leadership
- Strong working knowledge of: FAA regulations and guidance (Part 145, 21 as applicable);
Quality management systems in aerospace environments;
Audit systems and corrective action methodologies - Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, credibility, and regulatory authority
- Experience working in defense, aerospace, or highly regulated manufacturing/maintenance environments
- Preferred:
Prior experience as a Quality Manager, Chief Inspector, Director of Quality, or similar leadership role - Hands-on experience leading FAA or customer audits
- SMS implementation or sustainment experience
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, root cause analysis, risk-based thinking)
- Strong communication skills with regulators, customers, and executive leadership
- Maintain the Repair Station Quality Management System and related documentation; ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Lead audits and corrective actions; drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Embed quality and safety into daily operations; collaborate with operations, engineering, and leadership.
- Ensure all work is performed within certificate scope and approved data; manage training and qualification programs.
- Participate in Safety Management System activities, including hazard reporting and risk assessments.
