Laboratory Technician

R&D Scientist

This position will be responsible for supporting an R&D team to develop new separation science products methods, and techniques, execute the experimental part of a research project, and summarize and report data. It will also be responsible for providing analytical support, keeping instruments calibrated and in excellent working condition, and performing simple maintenance tasks.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Executing sets of experiments according to existing protocols designed by supervisor and/or project lead
• Providing synthetic support to develop safe, cost-effective and efficient technologies involving surface modification of silica and polymer particles
• Supporting scaling up efforts from small laboratory scale to pilot- and full manufacturing-scale
• Operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining laboratory equipment
• Preparing solutions and mixtures of solvents with exact concentration
• Performing physical and chemical testing of chromatographic sorbents, HPLC columns and sample preparation products with limited supervision
• Documenting, summarizing and reporting experimental data. Maintaining detailed, accurate, legible records of all experiments, and graphs all relevant trend data
• Analyzing data and discussing next steps with supervisor
• Performing routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, and requesting and coordinating professional service if necessary
• Maintaining all instruments and equipment in excellent condition, keeping all work areas neat and clean, and following all safety procedures without exception
• Training incoming technicians on routine testing and safety measures related to their assignments
• Managing materials and workspace
• Monitoring inventory for materials and reagents
• Maintaining workspace clean and organized
• Disposing of waste following procedures in place
• Supporting other research activities as requested by supervisor
• Performing additional more complex work as requested

Knowledge, skills, and experience required:

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry or related STEM field
• Ability to carry out chemical experiments in a laboratory
• Experience with operating laboratory tools and instruments such as analytical balance, pipettes, elemental analyzer, HPLC or GC
• Ensures all work is accurate and free of errors/defects
• Attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and positive attitude
• Ability to satisfactorily perform routine tasks accurately and promptly, working independently
• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and data base applications
• Knowledge of safety measures when working with hazardous chemicals
• Ability to manage multiple projects and establish priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Highly motivated, enthusiastic, and able to work individually and as a member of a team with minimum supervision

Pay Rate: 20/hr bill Rate: 30/hr.

Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs, talking or hearing. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include the ability to distinguish the nature of objects by using the eye.

Work environment is performed primarily indoors in an office, laboratory, or warehouse setting; wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate; higher level of noise may be prevalent in laboratories or warehouse settings. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel or work necessary overtime.
