Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Assembly
We have an outstanding Contract position for a Mechanical Technician to join a leading Company located in Torrance, CA.
Pay Rate: $33.00;
Shift: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
The primary role of this position is to perform advanced mechanical and electrical assembly of various precision assemblies, mechanisms and positioning systems.
The Mechanical Technician II position involves the assembly and installation of a low volume, high technology, high variation product mix, produced in a project‑driven build‑to‑order production environment.
Responsibilities- Fasten components or parts together, using hand tools, rivet guns, torque wrenches, and welding equipment.
- Position and align components for assembly, manually or utilizing various material handling tools and equipment.
- Analyze assembly blueprints, schematics and specification manuals, and assist with assembly, wiring and/or machine building operations.
- Rework, repair, and replace damaged parts or assemblies.
- Fasten and install piping, fixtures, or wiring and electrical components to specifications.
- Inspect and test parts and accessories for leakage, defects, or functionality, using electronic, optical and mechanical test equipment.
- Set and verify clearance of parts.
- Verify conformance of parts to stock list and blueprints, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauges, micrometers, indicators, spinning lasers and laser trackers.
- Lay‑out, drill, ream, tap and cut parts for assembly.
- Remove rough spots and finish surfaces to fit.
- Clean parts or components using hand tools and power tools.
- Perform preventative maintenance per instructions and update checklists.
- Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
- Re‑assemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
- Work with little or no direct supervision in field installation scenarios.
- Apply a creative approach to problem solving and exercise good judgement.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years minimum of machine building assembly experience or a combination of applicable coursework and job experience.
- Advanced mechanical troubleshooting and basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of system‑level mechanical testing.
- Knowledge of assembly tools and mechanical assembly techniques.
- Advanced blueprint and schematic reading.
- Accurate record keeping skills.
- Base level system operation.
- Forklift certification.
- Ability to manually lift/move up to 45 pounds.
- Applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. and be legally authorized to access export‑controlled information and source code.
- This position will require domestic and international travel, approximately 25% of the time.
- Set‑up, operation and MDI of CNC machinery.
- Cut and weld metal to repair broken metal parts, fabricate new parts, and assemble new equipment.
- MIG and TIG welding capabilities.
- Set‑up and operation of metalworking equipment such as milling, drilling, turning and grinding machinery to shape or fabricate parts.
- Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering background desirable.
- Knowledge of z‑mapping and correction, planar, cylindrical and spherical alignment.
- Aerial device / elevated platform / rigging experience and/or certifications.
- Capable of solo or leading a team on system field installations and baseline testing.
- Fabrication of structures requiring material cutting, clamping, welding, lifting and painting.
- Set‑up and installation of large bearings and slewing rings.
- Access to technologies and hardware subject to U.S. national‑security‑based export control requirements.
