Position SummaryThe Preschool Substitute Teacher supports Head Start classrooms by working collaboratively with classroom teaching staff to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool-aged children. This as-needed position ensures continuity of classroom operations in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
Major Responsibilities- Support classroom teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily routines consistent with Head Start Program Performance Standards.
- Assist in maintaining appropriate adult-to-child ratios and active supervision at all times.
- Help ensure a classroom environment that promotes children's health, safety, and emotional well-being.
- Support children during classroom activities, meals, rest time, outdoor play, and transitions.
- Follow established classroom behavior guidance strategies and program policies.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and program information, in compliance with Head Start confidentiality requirements.
- Comply with all Head Start health, safety, and supervision requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality related to children and families.
- Flexibility and reliability to work across multiple program locations.
- Flexible, as-needed substitute schedule.
- No guaranteed minimum number of hours.
- Working hours may vary and generally fall between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., depending on program needs.
- Must meet all Head Start background check and health requirements, including fingerprinting, as applicable.
- Must comply with required trainings, including child abuse and neglect reporting and health and safety training.
