Job Summary and Functions
Special Education Para educator position in the Life Skills Program for assignment located at Vogel Wetmore School (Grades PK-3).
Under the direction of a certified teacher, works with students with disabilities in small groups or individually, reinforcing instruction as directed by the teacher.
Assists in the maintenance of materials, equipment, and records of students and any additional tasks as deemed necessary by the special education teacher or supervisor in order to meet the needs of each child according to their IEP.
Qualifications- Associate Degree and/or 60 college credits or successful passing of the Para‑Pro Exam.
- Previous experience working in a school setting or with groups of children preferred.
- Warm and supportive personality with the ability to relate to children with a variety of special needs and disabilities.
- Ability to maintain the rules of confidentiality and the rights of all children.
10-month schedule, 184work days, 35 hours per week. Starting pay in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement is $19.15per hour, with comprehensive medical benefit package and tuition reimbursement.

Regular employees of the Torrington Public Schools who are current members of the Paraeducators' union. In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, “Paraeducators shall not be eligible to apply for lateral positions that become vacant after August 15th. Notwithstanding the preceding sentence, para educators shall be eligible to apply for promotional opportunities at any time.”
