Position Overview

Before and After School Programs/ Site Coordinator / Head Teacher – Vogel Wetmore School, Torrington, CT.

Hours:

3:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. plus approximately one hour of off‑site planning daily.

Job Description

EdAdvance seeks a qualified candidate to serve as Site Coordinator for its Before and After School Extended Services (BASES) program. The coordinator will manage daily operations, supervise staff and children, ensure compliance with state licensing regulations, and maintain positive relationships with families and school personnel.

Major Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the daily operation of the after‑school program.
  • Supervise children and provide a safe, welcoming environment.
  • Understand, follow and maintain all licensing regulations set by the state of CT Office of Early Childhood.
  • Maintain positive relationships with families, children, and school personnel.
  • Maintain student registration system and paperwork.
  • Set up and clean up the program site each day.
  • Attend mandatory Site Coordinator and Staff meetings as scheduled (usually evenings).
  • Obtain First Aid, CPR, and Meds Admin certification within three months of hire.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
  • Ensure regular and consistent attendance – an essential function of this position.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of three college credits in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education OR completion of the OEC Head Teacher Certification course (≈45 hrs online) and 240 working hours with children.
  • Must be present five days a week or at least 80% of the hours the site is in operation.
  • Working towards or possessing a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, or a related field (e.g., social work, education, psychology).
  • At least 240 hours of experience working with elementary school–aged children.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Awareness of age‑appropriate curriculum activities.
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to stand for the entire shift and move through program space (indoor and outdoor) with students.
