Global Citizenship Teacher (Grades 7–8)
Position Overview
Torrington Public Schools is seeking a passionate and globally minded educator to teach a Global Citizenship course for students in grades 7 and 8. This course is designed to introduce students to diverse cultures, global issues, and the interconnectedness of people and places around the world. Through inquiry-based and interdisciplinary instruction, students will build the knowledge, empathy, and critical thinking skills needed to thrive as informed, responsible global citizens.
The ideal candidate brings a strong commitment to cultural responsiveness and is excited to create engaging learning experiences that foster curiosity, collaboration, and a respect for diverse perspectives.
Key Responsibilities- Design and implement a developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned curriculum that explores themes such as cultural identities, traditions, and belief systems; global geography and environmental systems; language, food, music, and the arts across cultures; human rights, global challenges, and civic responsibility; contemporary global events and comparative perspectives.
- Incorporate student inquiry, project-based learning, and real-world connections into daily instruction.
- Create a classroom culture that promotes inclusion, empathy, and mutual respect.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners.
- Collaborate with colleagues to integrate global themes across content areas.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with families, students, and school staff.
- Participate in school-wide efforts to build a positive, inclusive middle school community.
Required:
- Valid Connecticut teaching certification (or eligibility) in a relevant content area (e.g., Social Studies, World Language, Interdisciplinary).
- Demonstrated interest in or experience with global education, international studies, or culturally responsive teaching.
- Strong instructional skills and a passion for working with middle school students.
Preferred:
- Experience living, studying, or working in another country.
- Proficiency in one or more world languages.
- Background in interdisciplinary curriculum development or multicultural programming.
