The Special Education Para educator will work collaboratively with certified special education teachers to support the academic, behavioral, and social development of students in grades 6 – 12. The individual may provide support with one‑on‑one and small group instruction, implement individualized behavior plans, and assist in the supervision and guidance of students throughout the school day.
Major Responsibilities- Assist in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) under the guidance of certified special education teachers and BCBA.
- Support students in developing independent learning skills and self‑management strategies.
- Assist in maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Monitor student behavior and provide feedback to the teacher regarding student progress and needs.
- Collaborate effectively with teachers, therapists, and other school staff to support the overall development and progress of students.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must have taken and passed the Para Pro test or have 2 years full‑time post‑secondary education (minimum 60 credits) or an Associate's Degree or higher.
- Preference will be given to candidates pursuing or interested in becoming a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), but all individuals passionate about working with students with emotional and behavioral challenges are encouraged to apply.
- Consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Previous experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.
- Ability to withstand the physical demands of frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and emergency physical management as required.
