Position: Assistant Nurse Manager (RN) - Med/Surg

Shift Detail

70-hour biweekly 10-hour shifts with alternating weeks of 30 hours and 40 hours rotating. Every other weekend, no holidays. 4 PM–2:30 AM shift.

Overview

The Assistant Nursing Manager is a Registered Nurse who supervises patient care, clinical personnel, and unit operations to ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective, patient‑ and family‑centered care aligned with the hospital’s strategic plan.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise a work group to guarantee quality, cost‑effective, patient‑ and family‑centered care.
  • Collaborate with functional leadership and oversee daily operations, including off‑shift and weekend supervision of nursing and non‑licensed staff.
  • Manage resources, quality improvement initiatives, payroll, colleague schedules, and patient throughput to facilitate efficient clinical operations.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic unit environment, including working as a staff RN as needed.
  • Support leadership in fostering standards of excellence and professional development.
  • Participate in, and may lead, performance improvement work within the department.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; MSN preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience required.
  • Registered Nurse licensure in the State of CT.
  • Certified BLS provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Certification in a specialty area required within 3 years of start date in the position or March 1 2024 if already in position.
