About

You

We’re seeking a result-focused, innovative, self-driven, and well-qualified individual to join our team as an Application Engineering Lab Tech. Based in Torrington, CT, you will evaluate product effectiveness in applied conditions by organizing an assigned test queue, executing complex and specialized tests, capturing complete records, preparing samples, maintaining instrument and lab readiness, verifying materials, and providing decision-ready data to Application Engineering, Sales, R&D, and Marketing.

In addition, you will:

  • Interpret instructions and organize workflow by validating objectives, building simple test matrices, controlling variables, recording conditions, and completing technical projects to defined quality standards within agreed timelines.
  • Maintain robust, repeatable records by documenting methods, substrates, materials, results, and observations in databases and lab notebooks, ensuring traceable, audit-ready entries for reproducible outcomes.
  • Present findings to request originators by exploring issues, compiling visuals and summaries, and delivering concise written reports and business-case rationales to support timely decisions.
  • Apply best practices in equipment use and test methods by learning device controls, following validated procedures, keeping a clean, safe, and organized lab, replenishing supplies, and handling chemicals according to SDS and PPE guidelines.
  • Guide external stakeholders on standardized application techniques by demonstrating approved methods, replicating customer conditions where feasible, and resolving routine issues to ensure accurate evaluations.
  • Verify incoming raw materials quality by performing defined mechanical tests, comparing results to specifications, analyzing variances, and documenting conformance or nonconformance with clear evidence.
  • Document work instructions for repeatable results by capturing verification steps, chronologies, approvals, and accuracy checks under guidance, and updating instructions when methods are revised.
  • Create test inputs for product data sheets (under guidance) by executing mechanical tests for new or repurposed products, compiling result tables, and submitting standardized performance summaries for PDS preparation.
Requirements

You should have:

  • High school diploma essential; BS/BA in Chemistry preferred — or equivalency
  • Working knowledge of ERPs, especially JD Edwards E-1, preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows-based software
  • 2+ years of lab experience, preferably in a chemical manufacturing setting
  • Precise, detail-oriented, and curious; motivated to learn and apply new methods

Salary Range: $51,000 - $73,000
