Position: Faculty, Full-time, Tenure-track, 9-month annual renewing contract, FLSA Exempt, Benefitted;
College pays up to $500 for relocation expenses.
Start Date: August 13, 2026
Salary Hire Range: $47,136 - $61,491 annually for each 9-month contract (actual amount depends on education and experience)
Job Summary:
The Math Instructor is a full-time, benefited, tenure-track, faculty categorized position located at the Torrington Campus. The Math Instructor will be expected to provide high-quality instruction across the full spectrum of the mathematics curriculum, from developmental and co-requisite courses to core academic requirements. The primary duty is to prepare and deliver in-class, hybrid, and/or online instruction to students. This role requires strong personal leadership, organization, instruction, and communication skills to ensure institutional continuity and drive student success, with a specific focus on bolstering retention and persistence through collaboration with all academic departments.
Beyond foundational instruction, the position offers opportunities to support or develop offerings in high-growth areas, depending on the candidate's expertise and education. Full-time faculty members are contracted to teach the equivalent of 30 credit hours per academic year (Fall and Spring terms). Full-time faculty are expected to have a minimum of five (5) posted office hours per week. The position may require minimal travel.
Essential Functions/Duties:
- Instruct assigned day, evening, and/or distance classes according to degree/program curricula
- Facilitate a student-centered positive and productive learning environment
- Coordinate, prepare, revise, and deliver curricula, syllabi, and lesson plans in classroom, hybrid, and/or online settings per degree/program outline
- Utilize the Learning Management System (Canvas) to deliver course information to students
- Advise and mentor students through their plan of study
- Maintain current and accurate records of assigned courses and students; submit grades
- Assess student learning outcomes and use the results to improve curricula
- Create new courses to meet programmatic needs; assist in meeting accreditation requirements
- Aid and participate in student recruitment and retention
- Maintain and post regular office hours; be accessible to students outside normal class time
- Remain current in discipline and area of assignment
- Serve on standing and ad-hoc committees as assigned
- Participate in College training and operational events
- Attend and participate in graduation ceremonies
- Assist with the selection of adjunct faculty and provide for their support
- Approximate apportionment of time: 75% teaching courses in math or related fields; 10% college and professional activities including committee work, assessment of student learning outcomes, and otherwise contributing to the collegiate needs of the institution; 10% advising and recruiting students; and 5% other duties as assigned
- Perform all other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in related field from an accredited institution; with a minimm of 18 graduate hours in mathematics
- One year full-time teaching experience in discipline at a secondary level or higher
- Current and vaod state-issued driver's licnese
Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Mathematics or related field; degree must be from an accredited institution; must have
18 graduate hours in the discipline being taught - Three or more years full-time teaching experience in discipline at secondary level or higher education
- Previous instruction experience in higher education
- Background in Mathematics or related field
- Ability to teach data-science, computer science, or physics; if there is program growth in those areas
