Welding Instructor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Welding Instructor helps reduce recidivism by providing instructional training to the inmate population within the vocational education program; this position instructs incarcerated individuals in introductory courses in welding through Eastern Wyoming College (Print Reading, SMAW, GMAW, FCAW) and teaches NCCER Core (Safety Course). The Welding Instructor also instructs students in introductory courses in Computer-Aided Drafting through Eastern Wyoming College (CAD I and CAD II).

This instruction will provide the incarcerated individuals with the skills needed for entry-level employment in the welding industry upon release. This position also develops an effective curriculum and tracks student progress through that curriculum.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Researches the latest training resource material to develop course curriculum, lesson plans and other training materials needed to teach activities and objectives; develops individual program plans.
  • Performs training needs assessment using job analysis, employee surveys, interviews and other special techniques to determine training effectiveness, identify training needs and establish specific learning objectives.
  • Develops program methodologies, revisions, and monthly reports.
  • Completes and evaluates monthly progress reports on identified objectives and activities.
  • Plans, organizes and schedules times, dates, facilities and locations for training workshops.
  • Administers standardized tests and functional assessments.
  • Develops and implements specialized program methodologies/data collection systems.
  • Provides for promotion, notification, registration and collection of fees for training programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe and enjoyable workplace, including participation in initiatives designed to promote a positive work environment.
Qualifications

Preference may be given to those candidates who can obtain an NCCER Instructor certificate and those with a certified welding inspector credential.

Candidates must be able to become an adjunct instructor with Eastern Wyoming College.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of basic regulations and practices associated with civil emergency activities and the welding trade.
  • Knowledge of basic instructional and training procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of behavior management principles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Education)

Experience:

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Welding or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Vocational Trainer OR Education & Experience Substitution: 3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Welding or Instruction) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Vocational Trainer Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None
