Required Qualifications:

A high school diploma or equivalent. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age and have the ability to lift 50 pounds. Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining intermediate certification in the Mandt Systemâ of nonphysical and physical intervention with aggressive youth.

Job Summary:

The Family Teacher's primary function is to provide constant supervision, while on duty, for the care and safety of each child placed in their care.

Resident and staff privacy and confidentiality is protected at all times. Minimum necessary access to resident and staff records and information is assigned based on the job duties and responsibilities outlined below.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Monitors activities and whereabouts of the residents on the living unit and provides constant supervision.

2. Using the Teaching Family Model, builds a positive, caring, professional relationship with the residents.

3. Will ensure that all residents are treated with dignity and respect at all times and their rights are not violated.

4. Be constantly familiar with each child's treatment plan and treatment reviews and utilizes appropriate methods for addressing each child's goals and objectives as opportunities arise.

5. Provides coverage on unit until replaced by the next shift. Provides coverage on unit during an intensive situation until situation is resolved.

6. Ensures that the physical needs of the residents are met by teaching appropriate self-care skills, communicating any special needs to the supervisor, and advocating within the institution.

7. Role models in a professional manner, appropriate dress, respect, honesty, and behavior at all times to the residents.

8. Writes clear, concise, and descriptive reports, including progress notes, in the predetermined time frame allowed. Prepares monthly written reviews on assigned residents.

9. Demonstrates a willingness to work with and understand the cultural differences within the resident and staff population..

10. Facilitates and encourages an attitude of importance for the cleanliness and appearance, routine and order on the living unit, role modeling a proper respect for the facility and property.

11. Will attend all required meetings and complete satisfactorily all training as scheduled to meet standards for on-going education annually.

12. Will successfully complete intermediate Mandt Training and the initial Medication Training

and will be annually re-certified.

13. Will follow established procedures in the dispensing of medications to ensure the residents receive scheduled prescribed medications on time and in the proper dosage.

14. Will assist in special projects including but not limited to the animal programs, which may include assisting residents with feeding, watering, and maintaining the animal living areas for cleanliness.

15. Remains physically and mentally alert to assure the safety and care of each resident.

16. Will provide a telephone number (which may be a message number) to St. Joseph's for staff use in reaching employee when not on duty.

17. Ensures the mission of St. Joseph's, including the spiritual formation of residents, is an integral part of the healing process.

18. Will perform other duties as may be assigned.
