Workshop Engineer
Hands-on workshop leadership for packaged water systems
Location

Salary
£30,000-£50,000
Hours
40 per week
Contract
Permanent, full-time
The opportunity Packaged Water Solutions is seeking an experienced, practical Workshop Engineer to take ownership of the day-to-day running of our assembly workshop. This is a hands-on role: you will lead the workshop while continuing to build, test and prepare equipment yourself.
You will organise people, materials and production priorities, maintain high standards of safety and workmanship, and help us deliver reliable packaged water systems on time. The role would particularly suit someone from a plumbing, pipe fitting or mechanical-services background who is confident working with pipework, pumps, valves and packaged plant.
What you will do
Plan and supervise daily workshop activities, allocate work and manage production priorities and deadlines.
Lead, support and develop workshop employees and apprentices while setting clear standards for quality and productivity.
Assemble packaged water systems from drawings, specifications and bills of materials.
Measure, cut, prepare and assemble pipework, and install pumps, valves, filters, vessels, gauges and related components.
Mount equipment onto frames, skids and enclosures with attention to alignment, support, access and serviceability.
Carry out pressure, leak, flow and functional testing, resolving build and quality issues before equipment is released.
Maintain accurate inspection, testing and production records and communicate risks or material shortages early.
Manage stock, consumables, tools and workshop equipment, and ensure finished systems are prepared safely for transport.
Maintain a clean, secure and well-organised workshop with strong health and safety standards.
Support occasional installation, commissioning or service work at customer sites when required.
What we are looking for
Practical experience in plumbing, pipe fitting, mechanical assembly, plant-room work or an engineering workshop.
Good working knowledge of pipework, pumps, valves and mechanical services.
Ability to read and work accurately from engineering drawings and schematics.
Experience organising workloads and supervising, mentoring or supporting others.
Strong practical problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
A disciplined approach to quality, testing, documentation and workshop safety.
Clear communication, good organisation and pride in producing high-quality work.
Useful additional experience Any of the following would be advantageous, but applicants do not need to meet every point:
A recognised plumbing, pipe fitting, mechanical engineering or building-services qualification.
Experience with water-treatment equipment, filtration, UV systems, softeners or packaged plant.
Practical brazing, welding or soldering skills.
Installation, commissioning or field-service experience.
Forklift, lifting-equipment or relevant safety certification.
A full UK driving licence.
What we offer
Competitive salary of £30,000-£50,000, depending on experience.
Occasional overtime and a performance-related bonus.
Company pension and paid annual leave.
Training, development and scope for career progression as the company grows.
A varied role with genuine responsibility and the opportunity to improve workshop methods and products.
Flexible working arrangements where these are compatible with workshop and project requirements.
The opportunity to join a growing specialist engineering business.
