POSITION OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Licensed Teacher plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere conducive to intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development to ensure success for every student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings, monitors and evaluates outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff, and community. Develops, selects, and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.

Maintains records and follows required procedures. Monitors use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

TRAINING

Appoquinimink School District may require training in Safety‑Care or a similar competency‑based crisis prevention intervention program as a condition of continued employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following information describes the overall nature and scope of the work. Other work may be assigned as deemed appropriate:

  • Provides a safe and encouraging learning environment for all students.
  • Plans and develops instructional plans, lessons, experiments, and support activities to present approved district curriculum.
  • Maintains accurate records, tests, reports, etc. as required by DDOE, policies, federal regulations, and School Board policy.
  • Analyzes and uses student performance data to inform instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains rapport and communication with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Establishes classroom routines, procedures, and effective management.
  • Implements School Board and school‑based policies to uphold regulations.
  • Works closely with guidance/special education personnel and outside resources to assist students with special needs.
  • Integrates technology appropriately to enhance student learning and instruction.
  • Remains current on evidence‑based practices through professional development.
  • Participates in district and school level committees designed to foster improvement and growth.
  • Communicates curriculum and student information effectively orally and in writing.
  • Participates in all meetings (IEP, conferences, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Hold or be eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in the identified content area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and effective teaching methodology.
  • Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs.
  • Skilled in using multi‑media and computer technology to enhance learning.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; excellent human relations skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee regularly talks, exchanges ideas verbally, and must have normal cognitive abilities. Frequently sitting or remaining stationary for long periods. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally or negligible amount frequently. Must be able to move around the school and classroom.
