Full-Time Student Support Facilitator Townsend Elementary School
Under direction of the Building Principal, the Interventionist Para educator will provide services to ensure that the student's needs are met. The Interventionist Para educator shall enforce the State rules and regulations and District policies to ensure the operation of the educational program.
The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
- Supports building administrator/Student Advisor with student discipline and implementation of the District Discipline program by engaging in preparation for student intervention, following Student Code of Conduct and District discipline progress, and assisting with investigations, conflict resolution, and follow-up.
- Supports the building administrator/Student Advisor in data entry into district database system by processing referrals on a timely basis, collecting behavioral data, and assisting in keeping accurate/current records of student discipline.
- Supports the building administrator in organization by processing detention and ISS referrals, monitoring/implementing accommodations, monitoring students in hallways, cafeteria, bus loading/unloading, and providing discipline learning packets for identified students.
- Demonstrates professionalism, maintain confidentiality, accept constructive feedback in a positive manner and maintain an atmosphere that promotes student behavior and learning.
- Demonstrates characteristics of an effective team member by engaging in problem solving, and exhibiting flexibility, and cooperation.
- Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills with students and staff.
- Work continuously toward self-improvement through the active pursuit of professional development activities.
- Implements School Board and school-based policies and procedures in order to uphold school regulations.
- Assumes other responsibilities and perform other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Supervisor of Student Services.
Below are the qualifications for this position:
- State of Delaware Para educator Permit required.
- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, administrators.
- Experience in working with students of varying abilities.
- Excellent communication, organization, and computer skills.
- Criminal background check and Tuberculin testing.
The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.
All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test. Anyone offered employment is required to provide proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver's License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
Job performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions set forth in the negotiated contract between the Appoquinimink School District Board of Education and the Appoquinimink Educational Support Professional Association, Affiliate of DSEA/NEA.
