POSITION OVERVIEW

Elementary Special Education Teacher - Special Ed. Certification Preferred. The Licensed Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students under the direction of the Building Principal. Creates an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to support Success for Every Student. Supervises students in various school settings, monitors and evaluates student outcomes, and communicates with students, parents, staff and community.

Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.

Appoquinimink School District may require training in Safety-Care or a similar competency-based crisis prevention intervention program as a condition of continued employment.

• Provide a safe and encouraging learning environment to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
• Plan and develop instructional plans, lessons, experiments, and other support activities to present approved district curriculum in accordance with district goals and objectives.
• Maintain accurate records, tests, and reports as required by the Delaware Department of Education (DDOE), policies, Federal Regulations, and School Board Policy to demonstrate student performance.
• Analyze and use student performance data to inform instruction.
• Establish and maintain good rapport and communication with students, school personnel and parents.
• Establish classroom routines and procedures and implement effective classroom management.
• Uphold school regulations by implementing School Board and school-based policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with guidance/special education personnel and outside resources to assist students with special needs.
• Integrate technology appropriately to enhance learning and instructional delivery.
• Pursue professional development to stay current with evidence-based practices in teaching and learning.
• Participate in district and school-level committees designed to foster improvement and growth.
• Communicate curriculum and student-related information effectively in oral and written form.
• Participate in all required meetings (IEP, conferences, etc.).
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal/Supervisor.

Below are the qualifications for this position:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
• Hold or be eligible for State of Delaware teacher certification in the identified content area
• Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, and effective teaching methodology
• Ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs
• Skilled in the use of multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning
• Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
• Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; strong human relations skills

• Preferred:
  Transcripts to be reviewed/evaluated prior to submission by a Department of Education approved professional organization; submit the review with the application

The following describes physical requirements for this position: regular speaking and listening, ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions, normal cognitive abilities, and ability to perform occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work is generally performed in a school environment with potential to move around the building and classroom.
