Overview
Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for secondary school students in the JROTC curriculum. Instructs and supervises students in a variety of school-related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Instructs cadets in the JROTC curriculum during the school year. Develops short- and long-range plans for achieving curriculum goals, gathers appropriate materials, establishes clear objectives for lessons, and formulates appropriate lesson plans.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes at designated locations and times. Maintains a safe and orderly learning environment.
- Recruit cadets and provides appropriate counseling to cadets enrolled in JROTC programs. Evaluates student progress and submits necessary government reports on a timely basis.
- Plans and implements instructional programs that adhere to system-wide goals and priorities and meet the needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Coordinates, plans and executes duties and responsibilities in conjunction with the BCPS JROTC Supervisor, and respective military service regional managers/directors.
- Organizes, supervises and participates in extracurricular activities for JROTC cadets (e.g., color guard, drill teams, and other special activities).
- Maintains knowledge of current professional military standards, including physical fitness requirements.
- Creates an instructional environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of cadets.
- Communicates standards, achievements, and deficiencies to students and parents; meets with students and parents.
- Maintains complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records; maintains JROTC student records as required by regulations and policies. Monitors and assesses students’ academic progress.
- Oversees the appropriate use, care, and inventory of textbooks, instructional materials, uniforms, facilities, and equipment.
- Collaborates with school administrators, other teachers, para educators, parents, and community members in the education of students.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on various committees.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education, Training And
Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. - Licenses And Certificates:
Possession of a Maryland Educator Certificate appropriate to the area of assignment, or possession of, or eligibility for, a Maryland Educator License appropriate to the area of assignment. - Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:
Knowledge of pedagogy, curriculum, instructional techniques, data analysis, instructional materials and equipment. Skill in instructing students, preparing and implementing lesson plans, and communicating with students and parents. Technology competency and ability to use databases, internet, spreadsheets, word processing, and related applications. Ability to maintain confidential information.
The work is generally performed in a school environment. May require the ability to move around the school and classroom.
Conditions Of EmploymentRequires attendance at after-school and evening meetings and events.

Salary and BenefitsGRADE: 10 - Month Pay Scale (valid until January 2026; effective January 1, 2026). Salary range: $60,600 - $120,717 (valid until 12/31/2025); $61,026 - $120,717 (effective 1/1/2026). For more information, see the BCPS Office of Payroll website.
