Assistant Teaching Professor
The College of Education, Department of Learning Technologies, Design & School Library Media (LTDM) at Towson University invites applications for a non-tenure, 9-month Assistant Teaching Professor position in the Learning Design/Instructional Technology programs. Spring 2027 preferred start date. The LTDM Department offers Ph.D., M.S., and certificate programs in instructional design and development, educational technology, and school library media. It also offers undergraduate courses in "integrating technology in teaching and learning," "artificial intelligence for education," and "cybersecurity for educators" for prospective teachers and other interested undergraduates, as well as several sections of general education freshman research seminars.
Qualifications:
The teaching-focused faculty position emphasizes computing, artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and advanced technology integration, grounded in learning design and learning sciences. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and/or graduate programs by designing and teaching innovative, student-centered courses that engage learners through problem- and project-based learning, promote inclusive excellence, and prepare students to apply computational and data-driven approaches to real-world challenges.
This role is ideal for educators who bridge technical expertise with evidence-based teaching practices and who are passionate about broadening participation in computing and learning technologies. Successful candidates will have:
- earned a master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Learning Sciences, Cognitive Psychology, Educational Technology, or a closely related field;
- demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive teaching and mentoring diverse student populations;
- show evidence of teaching experience or strong potential for excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level;
- demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas:
Artificial intelligence or machine learning;
Data science or data analytics;
Computing/Computer Science;
Cognitive Psychology/Learning Sciences; - show familiarity with ethical, societal, and policy issues related to AI and data science;
- evidence of skill in designing authentic, real-world learning experiences;
- demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement through reflective and evidence-based teaching;
- show strong communication and collaboration skills; and
- evidence of pedagogical scholarship, curriculum development, or teaching-related grants.
Responsibilities:
Design and teach courses in areas such as:
Artificial intelligence and machine learning;
Data science and data literacy;
Computing foundations (e.g., programming, algorithms, systems); integrating advanced learning technology in teaching and learning; ethics and societal impacts of AI and computing Develop interdisciplinary, project-based learning experiences grounded in authentic problems. Continuously assess and improve courses using student feedback, learning data, and reflective practice. Develop scholarship and curriculum development through engagement in professional development and reflective, evidence-based teaching.
