Position:
The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for TWO full-time, 9-month, renewable (1-3 year contracts), non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor (aka Lecturer) positions in the Department of Biological Sciences. Preferred start date for one position is August 2026 and the preferred start date for the second position is January 2027.
Qualifications:
Master’s or doctoral degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, or equivalent. A commitment to excellence and innovation in teaching is required.
Responsibilities:
The instructional workload is 24 contact hours per academic year (Fall/Spring); typical courses are 3 or 4 contact hours per semester. Workload includes advising biology majors, and departmental service, such as course coordination or responsibility for an ongoing departmental initiative. Teaching Professors are expected to show evidence of on-going professional development via scholarly endeavors and/or engagement with the college teaching community.
Specific department needs include candidates with:
• Experience teaching human anatomy & physiology lecture/lab courses. The candidates would join a team of experienced A&P instructors in support of our many service courses for our students from the College of Health Professions. The team and the department provide significant support to new instructors to meet standards.
• Knowledge of undergraduate biology curricula
• Experience advising biology students
• Experience with or an appreciation for high impact teaching practices
• Experience teaching courses at the 100, 200 and higher level.
The Department:
The Department of Biological Sciences provides high-quality education to both undergraduate and graduate students, with a focus on the knowledge and skills necessary for success at Towson University and beyond. The department enrolls ~1000 undergraduates in biology, as well as ~40 graduate students in the biology master’s program. The department supports interdisciplinary programs in molecular biology, biochemistry and bioinformatics (MBBB), environmental science, and animal behavior, as well as service courses in the College of Health Professions.
