Assistant Teaching Professor
The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Teaching Professor position in the Department of Chemistry & Forensic Science beginning August 2026.
Qualifications:
A master's or doctoral degree in chemistry, forensic science, or a closely related field is required. Prior experience teaching chemistry is preferred.
Responsibilities:
The candidate will primarily teach introductory-level lecture and lab courses in chemistry but may also teach other courses in their area of expertise. The instructional workload is 24 contact hours per year; typical courses are 3 or 4 contact hours each. The candidate will also support academic advising and departmental service activities.
The Department of Chemistry & Forensic Science is ACS accredited, with 17 tenured or tenure-track faculty actively engaged in externally funded research involving undergraduates and MS students. The department enrolls approximately 300 undergraduates in chemistry, forensic chemistry and chemistry secondary education, and 40 graduate students in the forensic science master's program. The department supports interdisciplinary programs in molecular biology, biochemistry and bioinformatics (MB3), and environmental science, as well as students pursuing allied health majors.
The department features state-of-the-art instrumentation to support undergraduate research.

Targeted salary range: $55,000 – $60,000, commensurate with experience.
