Model Based Design Engineer – Electric Motors Hybrid
Location:
Towson, MD (Hybrid – Onsite 3 days a week)
Responsibilities:
- Creating robust, well‑documented electric motor models using model‑based engineering tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Twin Builder).
- Developing and implementing calibration processes for electromagnetic and thermal models of electric motors.
- Simulating and testing these motor models to identify issues early in the design process.
- Modifying the electromechanical design of the motor based on early learning to correct issues before physical prototyping.
- Establishing and maintaining workflows and best practices for electrical system modeling within the team.
- Generating a robust motor and electrical part library that can be used by system‑level modeling teams.
- Mentoring and training engineers in model‑based design and controls engineering.
- Collaborating with cross‑functional teams, suppliers, and research institutions to drive technological advancements.
- Documenting control strategies, simulation results, and validation processes specific to electrical system design.
- Supporting certification and regulatory compliance for global deployment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field (PhD preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in electromagnetic and thermal design of motors, with experience in model‑based design.
- Proven experience with 2‑D and 3‑D finite element analysis tools for motor design.
- Experience modeling 3‑phase inverters, including thermal aspects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical system thermal modeling using lumped‑parameter circuits.
- Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink and model‑based development methodologies.
- Familiarity with MIL, SIL, and HIL testing environments.
- Experience with field‑oriented control methods for brushless motor control (highly preferred).
- Knowledge of lithium‑ion battery system modeling is a plus.
- Base salary ranging from $90,000 to $144,900 USD annually (based on market location).
- Sign‑on payment may be provided.
