Environmental Protection and Sustainability, Watershed Restoration Section.
- Under close supervision, performs routine professional engineering work.
- Assists in the feasibility assessment, design, technical review and project management of capital environmental, water resource and stormwater engineering projects, including drafting plans, determining right-of-way requirements, writing special provisions, preparing construction estimates, reviewing consultant design plans, and grading plans.
- Assists in the operation of computers and peripheral equipment to perform GIS work and computer‑aided drafting and design of engineering drawings, plans, and projects.
- Assists in operating computers to conduct hydraulic/hydrologic analyses of watersheds and natural waterway systems by performing technical computations and computer modeling and other engineering related studies.
- Performs field inspections and investigations of watershed/waterway restoration projects such as water quality improvement BMPs, outfall restoration, stormwater management facilities and floodplain/stream, wetland creation.
- Investigates complaints from the public regarding natural waterway systems and engineering matters.
- Assists in the preparation of engineering reports and technical studies.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering OR possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training issued by a State within the United States of America.
Preferred QualificationsCollege coursework, internships, and/or work experience in civil, water resources engineering, hydrology, stormwater management, storm drain design, watershed/water quality planning, and/or applied environmental projects such as stormwater management design, wetland restoration, and stormwater treatment Best Management Practices.
Licenses and CertificatesPossession of a valid driver’s license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver’s license may be required for some positions at the time of appointment.

Physical and Environmental ConditionsThe work of this classification is essentially sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, and other limited physical activities including travel to various work sites.
