Job Description:
As a Pre-Construction Estimator focused on Building Automation Systems (BAS), you will serve as a key member of the project pursuit team, helping to develop competitive and accurate turnkey proposals for complex commercial and industrial automation projects. On a daily basis, you'll review customer plans, specifications, and bid documents to determine project requirements and build detailed cost estimates that include equipment, labor, subcontractors, and installation costs.
You will collaborate closely with sales, engineering, and operations teams to develop optimized system solutions and identify opportunities to reduce project costs while maintaining technical compliance. Throughout the bidding process, you'll attend customer meetings, pre-bid walkthroughs, and project review sessions to gather information, evaluate risks, and strengthen proposal strategies. A significant portion of your time will be spent coordinating with vendors and subcontractors, soliciting pricing, validating scopes of work, and ensuring all project assumptions are clearly documented.
You'll also prepare detailed scope letters, technical clarifications, and proposal documentation that support successful project awards.
Once projects are awarded, you'll help facilitate a seamless handoff to the operations team by reviewing project details, identifying discrepancies in plans and specifications, and ensuring all costing and scope information is accurately transferred. Additionally, you'll contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by helping refine estimating processes, tools, and best practices used across the Pre-Construction organization. Compensation ranges from $45-$50/hr based on years of experience.
