Introduction
The Maryland Commission on LGBTQIA+ Affairs is a 21-member statewide body established by the General Assembly in 2021 to assess challenges facing LGBTQIA+ communities, advise the Executive and Legislative branches of State government, collect and analyze information on LGBTQIA+ policies and discrimination, identify inclusive best practices, and make recommendations to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ Marylanders. The Commission works across State government and in partnership with communities throughout Maryland to ensure that the experiences and needs of LGBTQIA+ people inform public policy and State programs.
The Commission is housed within the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives (GOCI), the Maryland Executive Branch’s principal office for community outreach and constituent engagement. The Commission works collaboratively with State agencies, local governments, community organizations, advocates, and other partners across Maryland. The Director serves as the Commission’s primary staff leader and is responsible for advancing its statutory responsibilities and priorities.
The Director provides strategic leadership, coordinates Commission operations, supports Commissioners and committees, builds partnerships across government and community, and helps translate the Commission’s work into meaningful action for LGBTQIA+ Marylanders.
Grade 21 / Salary Range $93,138 - $98,840

POSITION DUTIES- The Director, who may not be a member of the Commission, will administer its activities and will serve as the State’s LGBTQIA+ Commission Director in the administration of its activities, including coordinating Commission operations; contributing to the annual budget; strategic planning; responding to internal and external requests; supporting the work of Commission committees and advisory bodies; ensuring the effective implementation of the Commission's statutory responsibilities;
and processing commissioner reimbursements. - Planning and coordinating statewide meetings, conferences, summits, and other public engagement events that advance the Commission's mission and strategic priorities.
- Developing and implementing measures in conjunction with the commission to identify, pursue, and secure grants, sponsor ships, donations, and other non-State funds to augment the Commission’s work within its statutory authority.
- Preparing and submitting an annual report to the Governor and the General Assembly, and other pertinent reports, briefings, white papers and recommendations as needed.
- Managing information and overseeing its presentation through the Commission’s website, newsletter, social media, public relations, and other external communications to expand awareness of the Commission’s work and engagement with communities throughout Maryland. Collaborating with all State agencies on exchanging information and collecting data on LGBTQIA+ policies and discrimination complaints.
