Position Overview
The Director of Technology works closely with faculty, staff, and leadership to ensure NDP’s technology environment supports both operational efficiency and educational innovation. This senior leadership role is responsible for both strategic oversight and hands‑on leadership, with an emphasis on continuous learning, thoughtful implementation, and clear communication with all school constituencies.
Reporting to the Assistant Head of School for Finance and Administration and serving as a member of the School Leadership Team, this position directs management of infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance and privacy compliance to create a secure, reliable, and future‑ready teaching and learning environment. Additionally, the director proposes budgets for programs and projects, purchases and upgrades equipment, supervises computer specialists and IT vendors, and presides over IT‑related capital projects.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Vision & Institutional Leadership- Articulate and advance a clear, compelling vision for NDP technology that aligns with the school’s mission, values, and strategic plan.
- Act as a strategic thought partner and collaborative leader across the school, partnering closely with school leadership, faculty, and staff to shape school‑wide strategy, strengthen cross‑departmental alignment, and cultivate a cohesive, inclusive community culture.
- Lead the development and implementation of technology governance, planning, policies, and procedures in partnership with department members and school stakeholders, ensuring clarity, alignment, and shared ownership.
- Maintain awareness and knowledge of emerging instructional technologies and resources, including developing relationships with other educational institutions of equivalent size and technological environments and philosophies.
- Lead continuous program evaluation and improvement, ensuring offerings remain relevant, inclusive, and aligned with student interests and institutional priorities.
- Serve as liaison to the Technology Advisory Board.
- Manage the day‑to‑day operations of the Technology Department, including directing staff and contractual support staff who support administrative computing, networking, user services, A/V services, telecommunications and other technical and information functions.
- Oversee the hiring, supervision, evaluation, and growth of all members of the Technology Department, which currently includes an Assistant Director of Technology, Senior Help Desk Technician and Help Desk Support Specialist.
- Provide clear expectations, feedback, and accountability while fostering a collaborative and growth‑oriented departmental culture.
- Maintain clear documentation, procedures, and knowledge resources for the school community.
- Partner with HR on onboarding/offboarding processes and procedures (accounts, access, devices, training, documentation, and security).
- In partnership with School Leadership, lead decisions regarding hardware, software, systems, back‑end infrastructure, and services to ensure cost‑effectiveness; customer satisfaction; compliance; asset management; quality of service; and performance.
- Lead a service‑driven department that partners with faculty and staff, responds to end‑user needs, supports and enhances the student experience, maintains a dependable and secure technology infrastructure, delivers impactful training, and aligns practices with school‑wide goals.
- Provide executive oversight for compliance, data governance, and cyber resilience, safeguarding the school’s digital assets and operational continuity.
- Collaborate closely with the Coordinator of Educational Technology to shape and align technology‑related professional development goals for faculty, staff, and administration, supporting the effective use of both existing and emerging technologies across the school.
