Position: Senior Cloud Engineer, Information Technology [R0150849]

Senior Cloud Engineer, Information Technology

Provides full‑time platform and cloud services (public, hosted, SaaS, PaaS) infrastructure engineering and systems administration.

Responsibilities
  • Infrastructure, engineering, and administration tasks on supported platforms and cloud services
  • Design, deploy, and manage scalable, secure, and resilient platform and cloud services within a hybrid environment
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning
  • Manage Infrastructure‑as‑Code templates
  • Optimize resource usage
  • Ensure compliance with security and governance standards
  • Perform platform and services administration: tenant management, version upgrades, patching, performance tuning
  • System monitoring, maintenance, growth planning, problem analysis, documentation, backups and recovery
  • Support modernization and operational transparency initiatives, collaborating with university faculty, business teams, and vendors
  • Maintain a customer‑focused approach in all duties, ensuring professional, timely, and effective interactions with internal and external stakeholders; listen, understand, solve problems, exhibit professionalism, be approachable, respectful, team‑oriented, take ownership, provide updates, and understand the basic operations of the university
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent (associate’s degree plus two additional years of relevant experience, or bachelor’s equivalency with four additional years of relevant experience)
  • Seven (7) years of related professional experience in systems engineering
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a higher‑education environment
  • Ten (10) years or more related professional experience in systems engineering
  • Industry certifications:
    Linux, Cloud (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), Project Management, Major Service Certification
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Maintain applications and perform system version upgrades; patching; performance tuning; troubleshooting; security monitoring; documentation; application planning and supervision; milestone planning; project goal attainment; timely project completion
  • Plan and engineer hybrid infrastructure; orchestrate automation workflows including IaC; plan server/client migrations; disaster recovery; and improve server performance and availability
  • Advanced system administration, system hardening, service failover, fault tolerance, multi‑tiered and public cloud configurations
  • Effective communication, project planning, research and development capability
  • High ethical standards, attention to detail, teamwork, high customer service, issue analysis, verbal and written communication, organization and prioritization
  • Physical: may exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, lift or move objects; may involve sitting most of the time, walking or standing briefly; may require up to 50 pounds of force occasionally during installations
