POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland is seeking two highly motivated, organized, and energetic leaders to manage the staff and daily operations of our rapidly growing Bel Air Branch Office in Harford County MD and our Waldorf Branch Office in Charles County MD.

Bel Air is the vibrant county seat known for its historic downtown, scenic outdoor trails, and community events, with many unique locally owned shops and boutiques in the downtown area. Did we forget to mention the list of restaurants and fast food establishments too many to mention?

Waldorf is the vibrant heart of Southern Maryland. Situated along U.S. Route 301 and just 23 miles southeast of Washington, D.C., it perfectly blends a booming economy with a welcoming "Hometown" atmosphere.

The main purpose of this job is to manage the operations of the Bel Air or Waldorf Branch Office of the Taxpayer Services Division within the Comptroller of Maryland’s agency.

  • This position plans, organizes, and directs or assists in the direction of the operational work of subordinate staff, for the Bel Air or Waldorf Branch Office for the Comptroller of Maryland.
  • Responsibilities also include answering inquiries and complaints of taxpayers, CPA's, and the general public, who contact the local branch office by phone, in person, and through the on-line CRM application.
  • This position devises and implements systems, and procedure for recording and the processing of payment transactions using our Trip 21 and Fairfax 5.0 systems.
  • This position oversees and ensures that payments received in the branch office are processed daily. Review and approve leave, as well as monitor staff coverage of the branch office.
  • This position will prepare and assist in the preparation of daily statistical reports on the operations of the unit. They will promulgate, promote, and ensure the compliance of policies, rules, regulations and procedures with the tax laws and regulations of the State.
  • This position is considered one of the agency's emergency essential personnel and is to ensure that the branch office is adequately staffed during normal work hours and is available during emergency situations.

This position is not telework eligible.

PLEASE NOTE:

Employees are unable to prepare tax returns outside of the requirements of the job or work for a private accounting company. The nature of the position could involve exposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings, handling upset or irate taxpayers. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a drivers license valid in the State of Maryland.

Work may involve special physical demands such as lifting 25 to 35 pounds, delivering supplies, etc. Evening and weekend work may be required during peak times of the year. Leave may be limited during certain times of the year due to high volume events, projects or special assignments. The position is considered one of the agency's emergency essential personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:

Six years of professional work experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, general management, or customer service. One year of this professional work experience must have involved supervising revenue administrators, accountants, or auditors, or providing legal advice requiring the interpretation of tax laws in the capacity of a tax professional, or having been in a responsible administrative or management capacity.
