The City of Westminster is seeking qualified applicants for the positions of Wastewater Plant Operator I and/or Wastewater Plant Operator II. These positions support the continuous operation of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Both positions play a vital role in protecting public health and the environment through the treatment and safe discharge of wastewater.
Primary Duties (Both Levels)Operators are responsible for the monitoring, operation, and maintenance of wastewater treatment processes and related equipment.
Duties include:
- Monitoring wastewater flow and biological treatment processes
- Collecting samples and performing laboratory analyses
- Adjusting chemical feed rates, air flow, and system controls based on operational data
- Inspecting, operating, and performing preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, and other plant equipment
- Assisting with sludge processing, dewatering, and disposal operations
- Operating and monitoring SCADA and computerized control systems
- Maintaining accurate operational logs and reports
- Working safely in industrial environments and in varying weather conditions
Starting Base Pay: $17.7680 per hour (dependent upon qualifications and experience)
This position is intended for individuals beginning a career in wastewater operations. Employees work under supervision while completing required training and certifications.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to obtain the following within required time frames:
- Maryland Temporary Class V Wastewater Operator Certificate (within probationary period)
- Maryland Class V Wastewater Treatment Certification (within three years of hire)
- Class A Restricted Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank vehicle and air brake endorsements (within one year)
- CPR, First Aid, and other required technical training
Starting Base Pay: $21.1100 per hour (dependent upon qualifications and experience)
This position is for experienced, certified operators capable of performing duties with greater independence and assisting in the guidance of less experienced staff.
Minimum Qualifications- High school diploma or GED
- At least one (1) year of water or wastewater treatment operations experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current Maryland Class V Wastewater Treatment Certification
- Valid Class A or B Restricted CDL with tank vehicle and air brake endorsements
- CPR, First Aid, and State Flagger certifications

- Second Shift: 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Shift: +10% of base rate per hour - Third
Shift: +15% of base rate per hour
These roles are designated essential and safety-sensitive
