Schedule:
35 hours per week. This vacancy exists in the Bureau of Clinical Services/Center Based Services, Department of Health and Human Services.
Under close supervision, assists nurses, physicians, and other health professionals in providing health services to individuals, families, and groups in homes, communities, and public or employee health centers.
- Assists clinicians in the direct care of patients and in conducting physical examinations either in health centers or in the home
- Monitors, documents, and reports on the condition of patients.
- Takes and records pre‑examination information from patients including vital signs, height and weight measurements, and medical histories.
- Collects, prepares, and tests various laboratory specimens. Performs venipuncture, hearing and vision screening, and associated clinical procedures.
- Prepares, sets up, and closes out examination rooms.
- Sets up, maintains, cleans, and sterilizes medical instruments and equipment.
- Maintains and distributes inventories of medical and office supplies.
- Assists in the preparation of maintenance of medical records, files, and reports.
Performs other duties as required.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or an appropriate equivalent.
- At least two years’ experience, under supervision, rendering direct medical patient care.
- Additional qualifying education in nursing or a related field may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience.
- Certified Nursing Assistant certification by the Maryland Board of Nursing (required at the time of appointment).
- Valid driver’s license equivalent to a noncommercial, class C Maryland driver’s license (required at the time of appointment).
The work of this classification may include walking, standing, lifting, operation of medical equipment, and travel throughout the County. Duties may expose incumbents to various biomedical hazards.
Medical Examination and Employment Background InvestigationApplicants must successfully complete a physical examination, drug screen and an employment background investigation including criminal background, education and fingerprint check.
Salary and BenefitsAnnual salary review: step increases may be granted on anniversary date based on satisfactory job performance. General increases: cost of living increments as legislated. Longevity increases: one step on completion of certain years of service.
