DescriptionAmerican Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring an active MD or Compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience.
Details- Work in a 6-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit with an average daily census of 3-5 patients
- Rotating night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 19:00-07:30) with possible rotation to 11a-11p shifts based on unit needs
- 36 hours per week
- Every third weekend required, with additional weekend coverage possible based on unit needs
- Holiday coverage required as scheduled
- Floating to the MSICU required as needed
- On-call responsibilities of 24-32 hours per rotating 6-week schedule
- Patient population includes post‑op cardiac surgery (CABG, MVR, AVR), cardiac surgery readmissions, structural heart procedures (TAVR, mitral clips), STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock, and Inari procedures
- Manages complex post‑op cases including patients on multiple inotropic medications, open chest, OHS/Impella, ECMO, CRRT, and IABP
- Epic EMR used
- Active MD or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only)
- CPI certification required
- NIHSS, OCN, and TNCC certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience required
- Immediate post‑op open heart surgery experience required
- Epic charting experience required
- Experience with arterial line, central line, and PICC line management
- Experience with IV therapy, blood product administration, and port access/management
- Experience managing ventilated patients, BiPAP/CPAP, and high‑flow nasal cannula
- Experience with ABG interpretation and respiratory failure management
- Experience with IABP, Impella, and ECMO patient care
- Experience titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Experience with CRRT/CVVHD and acute/chronic renal failure management
- Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
- Experience obtaining 12‑lead EKG/ECG
- Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
- First‑time travelers will be considered if they have CVICU experience
- Candidates must reside 50 or more miles from the facility to be eligible unless locals are otherwise accepted
- Maximum RTO request is 7 days; requests exceeding 4 consecutive days require an additional week added to the contract
- Former travelers must be away from the health system for at least 6 months before returning
- Former staff members must wait 12 months before returning as travelers
- Typically limited to one contract and one extension before a 6‑month break from the facility is required
- Compliance labs must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
- Compliance documents due no later than 5 days prior to start date
